What happened on the show
Fay and her niece Brenda had opened Zayna Flaming Grill in Redondo Beach as partners, and by the time Ramsay arrived each wanted the other gone. Both demanded separate meetings before he even saw the restaurant: Fay, an Egyptian immigrant with sixteen years of food-truck experience, insisted she did everything and could not name a single thing Brenda contributed; Brenda, whose stake came from a 60,000 dollar loan from her parents, called Fay a control freak so distrustful she did the prep even on Brenda's day off. Asked whether they would fire each other given the chance, both said yes. The menu misspelled dining as dinning, and Fay's abrasiveness was driving customers off. The food was no refuge: oily dips and watery hummus, fava beans Ramsay compared to the inside of a diaper, frozen kibbi rolls, and a dry, flavorless Zayna combo. The family war, more than the cooking, was sinking it.
After the cameras left
Zayna outlasted almost every castmate, running about eleven years past the episode, though not without upheaval. Ownership changed to Ray Younis afterward, and in 2022 the restaurant relocated from Pacific Coast Highway to Artesia Boulevard because of landlord trouble, before finally closing by 2024. The aunt-and-niece feud that dominated the episode gave way to new ownership that kept the name alive for over a decade, a longer run than the on-air chaos would have predicted.
