What happened on the show
Peter Avgoustiou had taken over Yanni's from his father Yiannis, who founded the Seattle Greek restaurant in 1984, and he refused to change a thing about it, even as the family lost their health insurance and bled almost 10,000 dollars a month. His wife Karen and their daughters called him stubborn and stuck in the past; Peter, who rated his food a nine, insisted it was authentic and that people drove from all over for it. Ramsay, who loves Greek food, disagreed sharply. The pumpkin hummus made no sense and reeked of garlic, the moussaka was bitter and sweet at once, prompting his mous-suck line, and the house gyro looked, he said, like a plate of puke. The fridge sealed it: moldy boiled beef and sticky old chicken stored right alongside fresh, so everything was tainted. When Ramsay shut the kitchen, Peter turned his frustration on his daughter Alyse, whom he had trusted to check the fridges.
After the cameras left
Yanni's pulled through and is still serving Seattle. As of our latest verification the restaurant was open with posted hours and an active social-media presence, more than four decades after Peter's father founded it in 1984. A family that was losing 10,000 dollars a month and even their health insurance found a way to steady the ship, and the Greek spot Ramsay found frozen in the past is still in business under the same family.
