What happened on the show

A mannequin named Fiona stood inside the door of Old Neighborhood, Ramsay's first clue that owner Randy was a hoarder and that the Arvada restaurant's decor had not been updated in decades. Randy and his wife Alexa had met as servers there, married, and bought the place in 1988, and now ran a bizarre menu that was not landing with locals, in a room that smelled off and had chairs on wheels. Their son Wiley admitted he was afraid to take down any of the clutter for fear of how Randy would react. The food was as strange as the setting: a New Orleans barbecue shrimp drowned in a cream sauce Ramsay said he would not feed to Fiona, with shrimp tough as old boots; frozen salmon under an overly creamy sauce; and Yucatan scallops with no seasoning and nothing remotely Mexican about them beyond, Randy insisted, a chipotle pepper. Alexa remained proud of every dish.

After the cameras left

Old Neighborhood ran a remarkably long time before Randy and Alexa announced its closing on Facebook, shutting the doors on May 1, 2016 after 36 years. Even a 65,000 dollar kitchen renovation funded by the show could not overcome a bizarre menu and a dining room its own owner could not bear to declutter. A restaurant that time forgot finally ran out of nostalgia to run on, and the Arvada mainstay with the mannequin at the door was gone.
