What happened after
Italian restaurant still operating as of 2024, nearly 14 years post-episode; owner Lisa Hemmat also opened Playa Hermosa Fish and Oyster in 2017. 4.6 stars Yelp / 4.5 Google per source.
What happened on the show
Lisa Hemmat had bought Lido di Manhattan straight out of USC at 23, her father co-signing the loan, and five years on she was more friend than boss to her staff and losing money in a packed Manhattan Beach dining scene. Ramsay, struck by her youth, asked the same question the local rumor mill did, whether daddy had bought it for her, and concluded the place was out of her depth. The eggplant roll was crunchy and undercooked, the ahi tuna tower pre-seared and not fresh, the tortellini salad cold and rubbery. The kitchen was filthy, yet Lisa insisted it was not affecting the food and she had customers to serve, so Ramsay simply invited the diners in to see it for themselves; they promptly lost their appetites. Lisa called him a jerk and dissolved into tears, and Ramsay told her to grow up before shutting service down for a full clean.
After the cameras left
Lido di Manhattan is one of the show's genuine survivors. As of our latest verification pass it was still operating at 1550 Rosecrans Avenue, nearly fourteen years after the episode, and Lisa Hemmat has since expanded, opening Playa Hermosa Fish and Oyster in 2017. The 23-year-old Ramsay told to grow up built a lasting Manhattan Beach operation and a second restaurant on top of it, a rare and emphatic vindication.
