What happened after
Family-owned Italian restaurant on Veterans Plaza (owner Melissa Gigante and family) closed September 30, 2024, roughly a year after its October 2023 episode. The closure announcement did not give an explicit reason beyond a farewell post thanking the community; it opened opportunities for pizza chef Antonio elsewhere.
Closure date on record: 2024-09-30
What happened on the show
Da Mimmo was a young restaurant with a social-media pedigree, opened in Dumont, New Jersey in late 2022 by a trio of brothers, Antonio, Vincent, and Vito, known as TikTok influencers, with Melissa Gigante and family involved. When Ramsay visited in June 2023 he had little good to say about the pizza, telling the Gigante family the middle was soggy, the outside crispy, and the mozzarella just processed. As he typically does, he streamlined the menu around fresh ingredients and gave the room a makeover, tearing out a graffiti wall in favor of a warmer, more rustic look he felt made the place far more inviting and less obnoxious. The episode tried to steer a viral-famous young restaurant toward actually cooking well rather than simply looking the part online.
After the cameras left
The makeover did not translate into staying power. Da Mimmo, on Veterans Plaza, closed on September 30, 2024, roughly a year after its episode, with owner Melissa Gigante and family posting a farewell that thanked the community without giving a specific reason. Pizza chef Antonio reportedly moved on to opportunities elsewhere. A restaurant built partly on social-media buzz could not convert that attention into a lasting dining room, and the Dumont spot went dark within a year of its national moment.
