What happened on the show

By the time Melchiorri reached Telemark, the sprawling Wisconsin ski resort near Cable was already a wounded giant. Opened in 1947 and crowned by a grand lodge built in 1972, the property had a storied reputation in Nordic skiing and a financial history to match its scale, having passed through multiple bankruptcies across the decades. The show confronted a resort whose ambition had always outrun its economics, an enormous operation that was expensive to run and hard to fill. Anthony's task at a property this large was less cosmetic than structural, forcing a reckoning with whether the convention business and the ski trade could ever cover a building of that size. His counsel pushed toward running Telemark as the serious commercial concern its footprint demanded, but the underlying math, a huge property in a remote market, was the kind of problem no single renovation could solve.

After the cameras left

Telemark could not outrun its history. The resort, also documented under the name Telemark Lodge, closed permanently in April 2013, only weeks after the episode's era, and a subsequent buyer found the cost of renovation prohibitive. The grand 1972 lodge sat empty and deteriorating until it was demolished in April 2021. The former grounds now host Mt. Telemark Village, a trail and cabin recreation site run by the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation, which is not a hotel. This is one of the show's clearest total losses: a property whose four bankruptcies proved terminal, the building itself now gone. Confirmed closed, demolished 2021.
