In Kihei, Melchiorri took on a 26-room resort with a distinct identity: the Maui Sunseeker was an LGBT-focused property run by owner Chuck Spence, a small operation trying to hold a niche in one of the most competitive resort markets in the country. The show's interest was in whether a boutique property with a clear target guest could tighten its operation enough to thrive rather than merely hang on. Anthony assessed the rooms and the guest experience with an eye to that specific audience, then pressed ownership to run the niche as a strength, sharpening the offer, lifting standards, and giving the resort a confident reason to command Maui rates. The counsel followed his usual line, that knowing exactly who your guest is only helps if the stay delivers, and a small resort survives on getting that equation right day after day.

After the cameras left

The Sunseeker's story ended not in closure but in a sale and a new name. Owner Chuck Spence sold the Kihei property in September 2016, and the original Maui Sunseeker site now carries a notice confirming the sale. The same address at 551 South Kihei Road operates today as Kohea Kai Maui, a live, bookable hotel we confirmed directly, so the building thrives under different ownership and branding while the Sunseeker identity itself has been retired. Closed as the Maui Sunseeker in 2016, reborn as Kohea Kai Maui and confirmed operating as of 2026.
