What happened on the show
At the Sandy Shore, an oceanfront motel in the Rhode Island beach village of Misquamicut, Melchiorri ran into a wall in the form of the owner himself, a bully who resisted the intervention, plus a utility closet he found full of standing, moldy water. The episode, Futility Closet, played on the futility of trying to help a man who fought every step and on the literal closet of neglect behind the operation. A seasonal beach motel gets one short, intense summer to make its money and cannot carry an owner who blocks every fix or lets mold spread. Anthony's task was as much about breaking through the owner's resistance as fixing the rooms, pushing him to accept help, address the moisture and mold, and run the property to a standard the oceanfront location deserved. The fix hinged on getting a combative owner to stop fighting long enough to save his own business.
After the cameras left
The Sandy Shore is still open on the Misquamicut oceanfront. As of our 2026 verification the motel is operating, with an active official site carrying booking capability, and its Facebook page shows a following in the thousands with recent activity. Whatever became of the owner's resistance, the seasonal beach property has stayed in business more than a decade after the show. Confirmed operating as of 2026.
