What happened on the show
Up in the North Carolina mountains near Roaring Gap, High Meadows was a combined inn and restaurant, the Nikolas Restaurant sharing the property, catering to travelers along the US Highway 21 corridor. The episode, Swamped, signaled an operation overwhelmed by its own problems. A small mountain inn-and-restaurant lives on a steady flow of road travelers and local diners, and being swamped points to management and standards buckling under the load. Melchiorri went through the rooms, the kitchen and the guest experience, then leaned on the owners to get control of a stretched operation and deliver a clean, reliable stay and meal. His advice leaned on the show's line for a small combined property: run the lodging and the food side with discipline, and give travelers on the highway a dependable reason to stop rather than drive on.
After the cameras left
High Meadows has closed. A traveler review from early 2025, the most recent found, reported that the motel and restaurant were shut and that the property was being converted into studio apartments, with the restaurant possibly to be renovated separately. As of our 2026 pass that residential conversion at the Glade Valley address near Roaring Gap stands as the last documented state of the property. We could not reach the listing directly, so the closure rests on a dated review snippet and we log it as closed with medium confidence and an approximate 2025 end date. Confirmed closed, converting to apartments.
