What happened on the show
Just east of the Las Vegas Strip on Flamingo Road, the Fortune was a family-oriented hotel in a market defined by mega-resorts, a property that had changed identities more than once over the years, having previously operated as an Emerald Springs Holiday Inn and later a Ramada before landing on its current name. The episode, Mis-Fortune Hotel, played on a property whose luck had run thin. An independent hotel off the Strip competes on value and a distinct niche, and the show's aim was to find the operation and identity that could let it hold its own beside the casinos.
