What happened on the show

Set inside the former Roosevelt Elementary school, this Coeur d'Alene, Idaho inn was an impulse real estate buy by John Hough, a onetime student of the building, with his wife Tina a reluctant partner in the venture. The rooms suffered from unwashed linens, dated decor, and a cramped kitchen, and the food was worse: Ramsay was served frozen shrimp cocktail, mushy salmon, and a soft-boiled egg still raw at the center. John also hosted a barely profitable monthly murder-mystery night in which he played Sherlock Holmes. Once Ramsay convinced him that change was necessary, the team went to work, refreshing the interior, building a home-cooked menu the small kitchen could actually produce, and reviving the inn's wedding business. A wedding held the same night as the reveal went off smoothly, and the owners embraced the new decor and menu, reporting a steady rise in bookings afterward.

For a long stretch the Roosevelt looked like a success story, running as a bed and breakfast for more than 25 years. That chapter closed in 2025. Owners John and Tina retired and sold the Coeur d'Alene property to Blue Fern Development, a Redmond, Washington firm, in May 2025, and the plan on record is to redevelop the site into townhomes.
