What happened on the show
Taffer inherited a real mess in Uptown New Orleans, where an owner and his fraternity-brother friends had bought a college hangout notorious for all the wrong reasons. The bartenders drank on the job and served patrons carrying fake IDs, a combination that put the whole liquor license, and the business with it, one bad night away from disaster. TJ Quills sat on Maple Street near Tulane and Loyola and dated back to 1962, a room with genuine history being run into the ground by new owners treating it like their own party. Taffer's rescue tightened both the bar program and the door, resetting a culture that had grown dangerously loose, and reopened the venue as The Annex, a cleaner identity built to keep the lucrative student crowd without the legal exposure that came with serving anyone who flashed a card. The bet was that discipline behind the bar and at the entrance could preserve a six-decade institution the fraternity crowd had nearly gotten shut down.
