What happened on the show

When America's first karaoke bar faced closure, Taffer went hands-on to try to save a genuine piece of nightlife history. Dimples in Burbank had been putting microphones in customers' hands since 1982, long enough to claim the title outright, and the rescue treated it less as a broken business to be reinvented than as an institution worth protecting from the forces threatening to shut it down. That framing shaped the whole approach, with Taffer choosing to preserve the beloved Dimples name and its karaoke identity rather than gut what made the place matter to generations of Burbank regulars. The stakes were survival, plain and simple, a historic room on the brink, and the rescue leaned into safeguarding its legacy while shoring up the operation behind it. For a series that usually arrives to overhaul and rebrand, Dimples stood out as a case where the goal was less transformation than rescue in the most literal sense, keeping a landmark's doors open a while longer.

After the cameras left

History was not enough. Dimples closed in mid-January 2015 after one final New Year's Eve party, and the building was demolished for the Talaria redevelopment, a Whole Foods and residential project. The LA Times, through its Burbank Leader, announced the closure plan in a December 2014 story, giving the ending high-confidence sourcing from a strong mainstream local outlet. The country's first karaoke bar sang itself out and the site was cleared.
