The community center was where a bar rescue became something larger. During Operation: Puerto Rico in Loíza, Taffer went beyond the El K'rajo bar to rebuild the Centro Comunal Piñones-Loíza, a community hub that Hurricane Maria had wrecked along with the town around it. He and a star-studded team, including Mark Cuban, J.J. Barea, Luis Guzman, Bethenny Frankel and Bernie Williams, repaired the center and its playground, its ball field and its basketball court, treating the shared civic space as central to the community's recovery rather than an afterthought. The center's restoration was the clearest expression of what made this the biggest rescue Taffer had ever attempted, the show's cameras following the rebuild of a gathering place that belonged to the whole neighborhood rather than any single owner.
