What happened on the show
Memphis gave Ramsay a Southern institution that should have been thriving. Open since 1971, sitting near the airport with little real competition, Catfish Cabin had everything except upkeep. The surveillance found close to a decade of neglect, fragmented management, and an owner backing the wrong successor ahead of his own pending retirement, a combination that had produced pest infestation and hazardous food safety violations. The recon made the case that this was a failure of will, not of market. Across the twenty four hours Ramsay attacked the filth and the food together, confronted the owner over who he was really handing the place to, and delivered a revived room at the clock's end. His argument was that a restaurant with no competitors and a prime location has no excuse to rot, and that the rot here started at the top.
After the cameras left
Catfish Cabin closed in 2019, with secondary sources split on whether it was August or October. The lease was taken over and the concept gradually changed by new ownership before the name disappeared. Today the 2846 Airways Boulevard address is home to Bells Catfish and Soul Food, a different operator serving a similar menu in the same room. A separate revival under the name Trudie's Catfish Cabin was chasing a new Arlington location as of 2025 and 2026, but that is a fresh venture, not a reopening of the Memphis original.
