bakerySave My Bakery · Season 1, Episode 4 · Aired April 9, 2014
Flourtown Bakery
Flourtown, Pennsylvania
It closed and is no longer operating in 2020. The site is now home to Burrito Mania (unrelated new occupant, same shopping center space).
What happened after
Closed after 30+ years in business, roughly 2019-2020 (one report references a planned close-by-January-1 date, another describes it as closed "a couple of years" prior to a 2021-22 report). The Flourtown Shopping Center space was later taken over by Burrito Mania.
Closure date on record: 2020
What happened on the show
Money, not baking, was the crisis at Flourtown Bakery. Owners Frank and Denise had reached the point where keeping a bakery open meant raiding their own future: pension savings drawn down, loans from family, credit cards pushed to the limit, vacations quietly canceled year after year. That is the desperate arithmetic Kerry Vincent walked into in Flourtown, Pennsylvania, on the season's fourth episode in April 2014. It is a particular kind of Save My Bakery story, less about a bad product than about owners so personally overextended that the business had become a hole they kept pouring their savings into. Vincent's few-day method had to reckon with that first: a couple who had tied their entire financial lives to a shop that was not returning the favor. The episode frames the stakes plainly, a family stripping its own reserves to buy a struggling bakery a little more time, hoping an outside eye could find the fix they could no longer see themselves.
After the cameras left
Flourtown Bakery is closed. After more than thirty years, the shop shut its doors around 2019 to 2020, with reporting that pins the timing loosely rather than to a single month, so we hold it at a year-level estimate. The space in the Flourtown Shopping Center was later taken over by an unrelated tenant, Burrito Mania, which now occupies the spot. Two independent sources agree on both the closure and the successor. The exact closing date never got nailed down publicly, and we would rather say so than manufacture a precision the record does not support. For owners who had drained pensions and maxed cards to stay open in 2014, the eventual shutdown a few years after Vincent's visit reads as the slow end the money troubles always threatened.
