What happened after
Gastropub in Etobicoke that received menu consulting from Top Chef Canada alum Andrea Nicholson as part of the show. A 2015 blogTO-style feature (viewthevibe.com) still listed it as a recommended Etobicoke restaurant, but that is 11 years stale. An Instagram account for a similarly-themed "the6ix_pubandgrill" (Etobicoke, craft beer/gastropub) surfaced but is NOT confirmed to be the same business or a rename of it.
What happened on the show
Mick had lost the 6th Street Pub and Grill once already. When his Etobicoke pub closed, he took it personally, then scraped together what money he could and reopened under a new lease, betting that ambition would carry him. It had not. The dive was struggling again by the time Restaurant Takeover stepped in with its six-day Food Network Canada rescue, the reboot of Restaurant Makeover. This episode leaned on a Top Chef Canada connection: the chef sent to overhaul the food was Andrea Nicholson, a competitor from that show's first season, paired with designer Cheryl Torrenueva to rework the room. The story the episode told was one of a second chance already half-spent, an owner whose big dreams and fresh lease had not translated into a working business. The team's task was to turn a struggling Etobicoke bar around before Mick's reopening ran out of runway the way his first attempt had.
After the cameras left
The 6th Street Pub and Grill is a row we could not close with confidence. A 2015 local feature still listed the Etobicoke spot among its neighborhood recommendations, but that mention is now more than a decade stale. A similarly themed Etobicoke gastropub surfaced on Instagram, and it may be a continuation or rename, but we could not confirm the address matches or that it is the same business, so we are not treating it as a successor. The honest read: current trading could not be verified. Given Mick had already lost and rebuilt the pub once, the absence of a clear recent signal is worth noting without overstating it.
