What happened on the show

Tony Rivoli suspected his new meat purveyor of selling stolen goods after order prices dropped sharply at his Toms River restaurant. Charles Stiles sent a single mystery diner, Danny, in as a waiter, tough duty at a tight family business, while investigator Daniel ran a background check that turned up the purveyor as a wanted ex-convict working from a bogus address. As aired, the cheap meat came from a hijacked supply chain, and after a rival driver was roughed up, the confrontation ends with police arresting the purveyor and his driver. Tony, relieved none of his family was involved, rehired his old supplier. Given the scripting claims that later dogged Mystery Diners, this stolen-meat sting is best framed as broadcast rather than as verified.
