What happened after

Original Homebush cafe (owner Virginia Cheong) appeared on Kitchen Nightmares Australia in May 2022 and was rebranded by the show to a Lebanese-food concept named Cafe Tabouli. Per a February 2024 Daily Telegraph report, Cafe Tabouli then underwent a second rebrand to "Food Gallerie."

What happened on the show

Filth and fury is how the show set up Colin Fassnidge's visit to Cafe De Vie in Homebush, in Sydney's inner west. He found the full package of nightmare ingredients: terrible food, a kitchen he called disgusting, and an owner, Virginia Cheong, locked in open warfare with her own chef. A war between the person who owns a place and the person cooking in it is one of the hardest dynamics to fix in five days, because it poisons everything downstream, the food, the service, the mood on the floor. That is the mess Fassnidge had one short week to sort out. The episode aired in November 2022 as the season's fifth, and it hits the series' recurring notes hard: a dirty kitchen, a broken working relationship, and a chef-fixer trying to force two people who no longer trust each other to run a business together. At Cafe De Vie the hostility between owner and chef was as much the problem as anything on the plate in Homebush.

After the cameras left

Cafe De Vie no longer exists under that name, and it changed twice. The show itself rebranded the Homebush cafe on air in 2022, turning it into a Lebanese-food concept called Cafe Tabouli. That version did not stick as the final form either: a February 2024 report describes a second rebrand, from Cafe Tabouli to Food Gallerie, the name now trading at the site. So the chain runs Cafe De Vie to Cafe Tabouli to Food Gallerie in roughly eighteen months. The evidence sits behind paywalls and reads through snippets rather than full articles, so we hold the confidence at medium despite a fairly clear narrative. What is plain is that the original Cafe De Vie is gone in name, its Homebush address twice reinvented since Fassnidge's visit.
