What happened on the show
Melchiorri closed the series at a genuinely troubled property: the Maui Sands Resort and Indoor Waterpark in Sandusky, Ohio, near the Cedar Point amusement park. The episode, Waterpark Bug-Out, catalogued a grim scene of indifferent owners, an overworked staff, freezing water in the waterpark, and an infestation of roaches and bed bugs. A themed resort and waterpark depends on families trusting it with a clean, functional, fun stay, so pests, cold water and disengaged ownership destroy the entire proposition. Anthony worked the rooms and the waterpark while confronting owners who did not seem to care, pushing them to fix the health hazards, support their exhausted staff and restore the basic functionality a family waterpark requires. The verdict tracked the pattern the show wore into the ground for a property failing on the fundamentals, but the depth of the neglect and the owners' indifference made this one of the harder cases the format ever closed on.
After the cameras left
Maui Sands did not survive. The resort and waterpark shut for good in 2018 under a pile of lawsuits, failed health inspections and money troubles, was condemned by the county health department in 2023, and was undergoing demolition in 2024 and 2025 for redevelopment. A fraud case tied to the 2018 purchase of the property was still winding through the courts in 2025 per later reporting. The troubled resort that closed the series is one of the show's clearest total losses, the building itself being torn down. Confirmed permanently closed since 2018.
