What happened on the show
Melchiorri described the Lancer as a 59-room blight on Myrtle Beach, and the episode, A Tall Odor in Myrtle Beach, backed the verdict with a grim list: disorganized management, a bed bug problem, and a staff paid well below minimum wage. That combination, squalor plus labor exploitation, made it one of the more troubling properties the show took on, a motel failing its guests and its workers at once. Anthony's task was to reset an operation that had gone rotten at the core, confronting the infestation, the management chaos and the pay practices together. He pushed ownership to clean up the rooms, professionalize the management and treat the staff fairly, because a motel that cheats its workers and neglects its guests has no foundation to build on.
